Why is it that three different weather companies can't give us the same forecast?
Why can't you find a decent nail clipper?
Why do gas prices drop the week before a long weekend and then go up days before the long weekend?
Why do you change Donna to Dawna?
Why are you still using QR Codes?
Why aren't we hearing more about Bitcoins?
Why are using words like "transparency" in your ads to describe your business? (You will have to let that sink in!)
Why aren't you reading George Tannenbaum's blog, http://adaged.blogspot.ca/?
Why CBS? You cancelled a very funny show. I guess I was the only one watching!
85 words give or take is like the Seinfeld TV Show which was a show about nothing. 85 Words Give or Take is also a blog about nothing.

QR Codes
I don't see any reason for them if I am going to click on it and you direct me to your website.
But go ahead fill your boots
What I don't get is some of the dumbest spots for them.
Like on a bus. Really.
Worst yet is a bathroom at the movie theatre.
It just reminds of the Seinfeld episode with Rebecca De Mornay.
Get that phone out of here.
Oh yeah, its the other Rebecca De Mornay.

Does the QR Code Belong
I remember seeing one on the side of a bus. Just wondering how that conversation was presented from the transit marketing department to the client.
"Bus riders all have smartphones and while they are waiting for their bus they will have time to snap your code."
Right.
The advertiser was an art gallery.
QR codes are a waste of space, period.
Do you want more proof? Saw this one.
This is a hand towel dispenser in a bathroom at a golf course.
Right.

Free For All Fridays
So now that the CBC has been awarded the 2014 and 2016 Olympic games, will they hire back Brian Williams?
Can we finally agree that QR codes are dead?
Spiderman in 3D was not worth the $18 ticket.
There should be more of Dave Randorf and less of Michael Landsberg on TSN's Olympic coverage.
Pop up ads on webpages are very annoying and please stop trying to hide the X to close the ad!

QR Codes Fad or For Real
A QR code is a matrix bar code. They are likely to appear in print advertising.
I am just not sure what purpose they serve. The ones that I have seen just clutter the page.
And most of the ones that I have clicked on, for the most part serve no purpose other than take me to the company's homepage or if its a contest to that page to enter.
Question. You have invested in a website. Why not use every bit of advertising to brand your website address?

Have you seen any good QR code uses
QR codes are becoming the new black.
In browsing through a Saturday edition of the Winnipeg Free Press there were 10 ads that contained qr codes.
Using my blackberry messenger scanner I clicked on all 10. First off, I had success scanning only half of them. I couldn't get the others to produce a result even with using a different scanner called I-nigma.
Here is some food for thought for three of those qr codes:
1. For the Ballet featuring the next show, shoot a short video with the the principal dancer or say artistic director discussing the show.
2. To the car dealer, how about a video of happy car buyers or how about a click on the qr code take me to a page and win an oil change with a 40 point inspection all for just leaving my contact information.
3. For the educational facility looking for students, have the qr code take me to a video of the school and what you offer. Or how about a video of students and why they choose your institution to attend.
I have yet to see an ad with a qr code that has done anything more than send me to the main website. I have seen a qr code on a bus board and thought, "what was the marketing manager thinking". But I digress.
Leave the shiny new digital marketing tool off your ad if your website address is in the ad.

How one company is using QR codes to be number one in their field
Roy Williams, The Wizard of Ads, shared a you tube video on how a Korean supermarket chain is using QR codes.
Now think of how you are using a QR code. Do you see how it is a waste of time to simply put it in your newspaper ads or any print ads when all its doing is taking you to your website?

QR Codes

QR codes have been around for a number of years.
They are beginning to pop up a lot more in advertising pieces. I am not sure they are being used properly. This morning I saw at least three newspaper ads with a QR code.
The images tend to be very small and almost crammed into the ad.
Each one of those QR codes I clicked on took me to the home website. "But we did get them to our webpage". Yes but your sites weren't set up for a mobile device and that's another story.
QR codes should have some sort of call to action. How about a QR code showing a menu and an offer like free appetizers (yes you can store the QR code in your mobile device).
Or how about a video of a couple of your used vehicles you want to move that weekend.
Create QR codes that are different.
Otherwise drop the QR code when your website address will do.

QR code done well and not so well

This is how QR codes are supposed to work.
The code is visible and and when I clicked on it, I was directed to Peak's cause.
On the other hand, here is a movie pass for The Mechanic that has a QR code so small it was impossible to click and see what was embedded in the code. Just a hunch but the code was likely the trailer for the movie.

Oops on the proof reading and press check.

QR Codes
Quick Response Codes.
Wikipedia describes it as a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by dedicated QR Barcode reader and camera phones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be text, URL or other data. Common in Japan, where it was created by Toyota subsidiary Denso-Wave in 1994, the QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes. QR is the abbreviation for Quick Response, as the creator intended the code to allow its contents to be decoded at high speed.
QR codes can be a great coupon alternative.
Think cross promotions. Say you own a number of restaurants, you can use the QR code on table tops to promote your other restaurant specials.
The opportunities are endless. You will need a QR code scanner. Blackberry has its own scanner and you can find others at, www.scanlife.com or http://www.i-nigma.com/CreateBarcodes.html.
Download and have some fun.
